Fans of Benny The Butcher got a surprise this week, but it quickly turned to confusion as his new EP disappeared.
The Griselda rapper’s new EP, Buffalao Butch, Vol. 1, dropped on Friday (August 23). It featured highly anticipated tracks, including “Buffalo Freestyle” with Drake, but it vanished from streaming platforms without any explanation.
Eager for answers, fans stormed Benny’s Instagram, bombarding his last post promoting the EP with questions. One fan’s frustration was clear: “Where tf did it go??” while another echoed the sentiment with: “Why not available anymore??.”
Speculation ran wild that Drake might be the reason. After all, the global superstar did share new music on his side Instagram account the same day. One passionate fan even called him out, saying, “Yo @champagnepapi free that track with Benny!”
“Buffalo Freestyle” was a track years in the making. Benny and Drake had been teasing the song since 2020, and it even leaked online in 2021. It was once in consideration for Drake’s album Certified Lover Boy, but didn’t make the final cut.
Benny shared his frustration about this during a 2021 podcast chat, explaining, “Drake is Drake. He’s the biggest artist in the world, so ain’t no telling where that song gonna land.” However, he played the track for his friends, and they loved it.
Last year, Benny vented in an interview how disappointed he was that “Buffalo Freestyle” had been shelved for so long. “I was pissed, I’m not gonna lie. It’s a fucking Drake record! It was surely my biggest record … And the record’s just sitting in my pocket.”
He also expressed empathy for Drake’s hectic schedule, acknowledging, “He’s the name, but he represents a lot of people that he works with and his moves affect a lot of people.”
As fans await answers, the mystery of Benny The Butcher’s missing EP grows. One thing is certain: the hype around “Buffalo Freestyle” isn’t dying down anytime soon.
