In a candid chat, Redman shared how a challenging breakup led him to a personal journey of celibacy for over two years.
The rap veteran opened up about the tough times following his split from his girlfriend, amidst a grueling seven-year divorce process. This delay also impacted his music, specifically his album release of ‘Muddy Waters Too.’
During this period, Redman decided to take a break from certain habits, including sex and smoking, for two and a half years. He admitted it was a struggle, describing moments of solitary madness where he conversed with himself and God. However, he ultimately saw this as a pivotal moment for personal growth.
Redman emphasized the clarity and focus he gained through abstinence. “It cleared out so much distraction. My reception is much clearer now,” he noted. “It was all feeding the flesh, and once I did that, I could control better what I liked and didn’t like.”
Interestingly, Redman isn’t the only artist to take on celibacy. Fellow artists like GloRilla and Omarion have also experimented with the practice. GloRilla attempted a 90-day celibacy stint, humorously sharing her struggles on social media. Omarion took it further, abstaining for three years to deepen his spiritual journey.
“I kinda took it on as a challenge,” Omarion shared during a podcast. Although his spiritual quest didn’t align with his initial religious study, the celibacy period offered him a chance to find more within himself and detach from worldly pressures.
Redman’s journey with celibacy highlights a personal commitment to growth and clarity, marking a unique chapter in his life.
