Polo G’s recent Instagram post brought a sigh of relief and celebration as he announced the dismissal of his controversial gun case in New York. The Chicago rapper, known for hits like “Finer Things,” shared a triumphant screenshot of a text from his attorney with his followers, highlighting this significant legal win.
Back in April, Polo G had a brush with the law when he was arrested in Manhattan. The incident stemmed from a stay at the Dominick Hotel in SoHo, where a loaded Glock with ten bullets was discovered in his room by housekeeping staff. Consequently, the authorities were alerted, leading to charges of criminal possession of a firearm.
In court, Polo G’s lawyer made a compelling argument in his defense, emphasizing his solid career and lack of motivation to flee. She insisted on his seriousness and professionalism in his work, aiming to persuade the court against imposing bail. However, prosecutors opposed, labeling the rapper a flight risk due to his previous entanglements with the law, including charges of kidnapping, assault, and robbery.
Despite the contention, Judge Kevin McGrath set a cash bail of $25,000 to ensure Polo G’s subsequent appearance in court. Fast forward to December, Polo’s persistence paid off when the charges were not only dismissed but also sealed, marking a clean slate for him.
The rapper did face another arrest in October in Los Angeles when once again, a weapon was found during a routine traffic stop for speeding. This incident, however, did not hold as severe consequences. He was released a few days later, as there were insufficient grounds for a formal complaint, as per the California Penal Code.
Polo G’s legal journey has been turbulent, yet recent developments hint at a positive turning point. With the New York case dismissed, the rapper can breathe easier, focusing on his flourishing music career.
