  • Ebro’s comments sparked discussions on social media elements of success.
  • Lil Uzi Vert’s new song snippet, ‘Chill Ebro,’ teases their assertive comeback.

Lil Uzi Vert is turning up the heat on social media, previewing a bold response to Ebro Darden’s skepticism. Ebro suggested that Uzi hasn’t achieved the rock star status they proclaimed years ago, and Uzi’s Instagram Story marks the start of a musical retort.

In a memorable Instagram Story, Uzi shared a snippet of ‘Chill Ebro,’ a track that’s been hinted at since the anticipation around Eternal Atake 2. The song features Uzi declaring proudly, ‘I’m the rock star that I said I was gonna be!’—words that could shake up the chatter around their career ascent.

Back in 2016, during a viral interview, Ebro questioned Uzi’s refusal to rap over ‘old’ Hip Hop beats, leading to Uzi’s now-famous rock star declaration. Ebro revisited this interview, stating, ‘I love Uzi Vert. I feel like he still hasn’t become the rock star he said he would become, though. I’m still waiting.’ His words reopened a debate about what it means to call oneself a rock star in today’s music landscape.

Ebro’s critique draws from a classic view of rock stardom, defined by sold-out stadiums and chart-topping hits. He pointed out, ‘The rock stars that I know, they were selling out MetLife Stadium. They could sell out Madison Square Garden eight, 10 times. They got hits on the radio, everywhere.’ It’s a high bar that he feels Uzi hasn’t yet reached.

Lil Uzi Vert, undeterred, responded with flair, teasing ‘Chill Ebro’ on social media. The tracklist was briefly visible on Uzi’s Instagram, showcasing ‘Chill Ebro’ surrounded by luxury watch and chains, sparking curiosity and buzz.

Ebro, seemingly unfazed by the unfolding drama, turned up the pressure: ‘Where you at, my guy? Where you at, bro? Didn’t he just retire, too? Wasn’t he just like, ‘Yo, I’m tired, I’m done?’ Come on, son. You supposed to be a rock star. What happened?’ His challenge seemed to invite Uzi to prove that they’ve reached stardom as promised.

Lil Uzi Vert seems ready to prove doubters wrong and redefine rock star success on their own terms.
