Dame Dash is stirring the pot again with JAY-Z over the recent sale of his Roc-A-Fella shares. He had hoped for a bigger payoff, but things didn’t go as planned.
Dash recently expressed disappointment after his one-third stake in Roc-A-Fella was sold at auction for just $1 million, a far cry from what he anticipated. Speaking on his America Nu Network, Dash made it clear he expected a better turnout and accused JAY-Z of not living up to his own hype. ‘What this really taught me was that, in the world, homie isn’t as big as he portrays,’ said Dash, who was visibly frustrated by the turnout.
He highlighted the lack of interest by noting that nobody, not even Jay himself, bothered to bid for the shares. He didn’t even see Jay showing up for the auction, which he cited as evidence of the billionaire’s lack of interest, ‘He didn’t think it was worth $3 million. A billionaire, supposedly,’ Dash commented.
In a surprising twist, Dash revealed that Drake had initially put up a $6 million bid for the shares but mysteriously withdrew the offer without any explanation. ‘Drake did put a bid in for $6 million, but then he disappeared. I don’t know what happened,’ Dash stated, leaving many to wonder why the Canadian rapper backed out.
The auction of Dash’s shares aimed to help settle his nearly $10 million in debt. He reportedly owes $8.7 million in back taxes to New York State along with $145,000 to New York City’s Department of Social Services in unpaid child support. In addition to this, Dash owes $823,000 to filmmaker Josh Webber from a successful lawsuit over copyright infringement and defamation.
Complications surrounding the sale include debates over the copyrights tied to JAY-Z’s debut album, ‘Reasonable Doubt’. While Dash claims Jay tried to ‘poison’ the sale by suggesting the copyrights revert back to him in 2031, New York State’s lawyers counter that Roc-A-Fella Inc. holds the rights until 2098.
A judge has refrained from weighing in on these copyright issues, citing a lack of legal authority to resolve these disputes, which further muddles Dash’s efforts to settle his debts.
As the dust settles, it’s clear that Dame Dash faces ongoing challenges in resolving his financial obligations, while his strained relationship with JAY-Z continues to make headlines.
