Hitmaka spills the tea on what he thinks went wrong in the rap game, pointing fingers at Kendrick Lamar and Drake.
- He claims their beef ‘really messed the game up’ and set a low bar for others to follow.
- Hitmaka believes only female rappers and Future are thriving post-beef.
- Kendrick’s diss track against Drake, ‘Not Like Us,’ was named the third-best song of the decade.
- Pitchfork’s list highlights other rap hits but emphasizes Kendrick and Drake’s ongoing impact.
Hitmaka didn’t hold back on his Instagram Story, sharing his thoughts on the aftermath of Kendrick Lamar and Drake’s beef. He said it ‘really messed the game up’ because now there’s ‘no bar or standard’ for others to aim at or emulate.
According to Hitmaka, since the feud, the hottest rappers are women and Future. He stressed that no male rapper seems motivated to compete against female artists, leaving a significant void in the rap scene.
Interestingly, while the beef might have disrupted the industry, Kendrick Lamar seems to be reaping some benefits. His diss track ‘Not Like Us’ was ranked as the third-best song of the decade by Pitchfork, sparking conversations about its cultural impact.
Pitchfork’s Alphonse Pierre described ‘Not Like Us’ as a complex and thought-provoking track that forces listeners to examine their own habits. Pierre also noted how the phrase ‘Not Like Us’ has become culturally significant, even making its way to the Super Bowl halftime show.
Other top tracks on Pitchfork’s list include Lil Yachty’s ‘Poland’ at No. 100, Ice Spice’s ‘Munch’ at No. 41, and Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s ‘WAP’ at No. 22. Despite the beef, Kendrick and Drake’s influence is still heavily felt in the industry.
In Hitmaka’s eyes, the rap game hasn’t been the same since Kendrick and Drake clashed.
