Playboi Carti’s pop-up birthday concert in Brooklyn ended abruptly when the NYPD shut it down before he could perform.
The concert, which was a ticketed event at the Brooklyn Warehouse with a 3,000-person capacity, saw an unexpected turnout of over 10,000 fans.
This overwhelming crowd led to clashes with the police outside the venue, causing chaos and ultimately leading to the event being canceled.
Addressing the situation on Instagram, Carti explained, “NYPD shut me down. I tried sooo hard to celebrate with you tonight. The music was about to be insane. I was outside the whole time. They told me they would lock me up if I got out the car. It’s my fuckin birthday wtf.”
He also expressed gratitude to his fans in a caption, stating, “TBH YALL DID YALL THANG 10,000 PEOPLE OUTSIDE VENUE ONLY FIT 3K. PD FOLKS TRYING LOCK ME UNFORTUNATELY. THANK U NEW YORK.”
The almost-birthday-show came shortly after Carti’s performance with The Weeknd in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where they debuted a new single. Carti also performed his Travis Scott collab “FE!N.”
Whether this new collaboration will appear on The Weeknd’s forthcoming album or Carti’s anticipated new project remains a mystery. However, fans are eagerly awaiting new music from the rapper, who hasn’t released an album in four years.
Earlier this month, Carti hinted at new music by posting photos in a Penny Hardaway jersey on Instagram. The NBA’s Orlando Magic even got in on the fun, reposting one of the photos and urging him to “drop the album @playboicarti.”
Despite the setback, Carti’s devoted fanbase remains excited and hopeful for new music, proving that his influence and popularity are as strong as ever.
