Kendrick Lamar’s latest track ‘Watch the Party Die’ dropped on Instagram right as the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards kicked off, surprising fans and critics alike.
The five-minute song touches on Lamar’s displeasure with the rap industry, using powerful lines like, “Street n-ggas and the corporate guys, the rappers that report the lies, I need they families mortified / We can do life without ’em, get they bodies organized, tell me if you obliged.”
While Lamar doesn’t directly call out Drake, he hints at their ongoing feud, rapping, “Just walk that man down, that’ll do everyone a solid / It’s love, but tough love sometimes gotta result in violence.”
Baka Not Nice, a close associate of Drake, wasn’t impressed. He shared his thoughts on TikTok, stating, “Shit sound like how them shoes look lil n-gga [wastebasket emoji].”
Their rivalry isn’t new. Lamar previously referenced Baka in his hit ‘Not Like Us,’ questioning his presence due to old legal troubles, turning the mention into a meme.
In 2014, Baka was arrested for allegedly forcing a woman into prostitution and assaulting her, though he avoided the more severe charges. He served six months in jail for the assault charge, walking free due to time already served.
Adding another layer to the drama, Drake subtly sided with those who believe Kendrick shouldn’t headline the upcoming Super Bowl halftime show, hinting that Lil Wayne would be a better choice.
With tensions already high, Kendrick’s new track only adds fuel to the ongoing rap battle between him and Drake’s crew.
