In a video that surfaced, Hill is seen performing the Fugees’ hit “Ready or Not,” with a twist. She changed the lyrics to shout out Columbia High School: “CHS taking over / Buffalo soldier / Dreadlock Rasta.”
Hill didn’t stop there. She also sang “Ex-Factor” from her acclaimed solo album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, leaving everyone in awe.
One classmate shared their excitement on Instagram, saying, “People traveled from out of state to love up on their village. It was simply amazing. Still speechless from @mslaurynhill giving us an impromptu performance. This reunion was SO good for the soul.”
However, Hill has been in the news for different reasons this month. Her U.S. tour with the Fugees was abruptly canceled, and she blamed the media for affecting ticket sales due to negative narratives.
Addressing the situation, Hill explained on social media that sensationalist headlines hurt ticket sales. She also mentioned an injury from last year that required rescheduling some shows, further complicating the tour.
Fellow Fugee Pras Michel has a different take. He criticized Hill, suggesting her actions have let down fans. He said, “My frustration was for the fans. They are paying their hard-earned money to see you.”
Pras added that although there’s magic when the Fugees are onstage, there’s also a lot of frustration about Hill’s punctuality. According to him, they no longer ask if she’ll be on time but rather, “How late is she going to be?”
