Drake has unexpectedly dropped three new tracks, and they’re already causing a stir, hinting at a possible revival of his feud with Kendrick Lamar.
On Friday, Drake released a trio of fresh songs via his burner Instagram account. This surprise release follows a similar drop of previously unreleased tracks earlier this month, clearly aimed at bouncing back from his perceived loss in his ongoing beef.
The new tracks include ‘SOD,’ which was initially a collaboration with Lil Yachty but now features Drake solo. ‘Circadian Rhythm’ and ‘No Face,’ with Playboi Carti’s guest vocals, are also part of the release. Among the three, ‘No Face’ has sparked the most buzz, particularly due to some pointed lyrics seemingly directed at Kendrick Lamar and other rivals.
In ‘No Face,’ Drake raps, “N-ggas got lit off the features I skated on / I gotta know, I gotta know / How you get lit off the n-gga you hatin’ on?” These lines appear to reference his guest verses for artists like A$AP Rocky, The Weeknd, and Future, while questioning Kendrick’s rise in streaming numbers.
Continuing with the taunts, Drake adds, “This is the moment I know they been prayin’ on / Try knock The Boy off, but fuck it, I’m stayin’ on,” hinting at a defiant stance against his critics and rivals. His second verse gets even more intense: “My therapist put in a 30-day notice / ‘Cause I keep on talkin’ ’bout beefin’ and business and money and women / It’s no diagnosis, they emptied the clip,” adopting a cadence reminiscent of Kendrick Lamar.
In ‘Circadian Rhythm,’ the title itself seems to mock Kendrick’s line from ‘6:16 in LA,’ where the Compton rapper talks about living in ‘circadian rhythms of a shooting star.’ To add fuel to the fire, Drake even dubbed the song ‘The Language 2,’ a sequel to his 2013 track that also took shots at Kendrick.
Currently, ‘SOD,’ ‘Circadian Rhythm,’ and ‘No Face’ are only available on Instagram. However, fans speculate they will soon be accessible on major streaming platforms, adding to Drake’s earlier surprise releases ‘It’s Up,’ ‘Blue Green Red,’ and ‘Housekeeping Knows.’
As fans eagerly dissect every line, it’s clear that Drake is far from backing down. With these new tracks, the battle between him and Kendrick Lamar might just be heating up again.
