Latto is catching heat from fans of Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice after predictions for her new album ‘Sugar Honey Iced Tea’ surfaced online.
Despite boasting features from big names like Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, and Ciara, Latto’s latest album isn’t expected to make much of a dent in the Billboard 200 charts. Projections from HITS Daily Double show the album might just reach around 27,000 units, securing a No. 17 debut.
This news has been a source of delight for Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice’s fanbases, who didn’t hold back on social media. One Nicki fan account mocked, ‘LMFAOOOOOOO FLOPPED LIKE EVE[R]Y ALBUM SHE HAS EVER DROPPED,’ while another quipped, ‘that’s it? HELP.’
Meanwhile, Ice Spice supporters are also chiming in. ’20 songs with big features and not outselling ice?’ wondered one user. Comparisons are inevitable, especially since Ice Spice’s debut album, ‘Y2K!’, sold 28,000 units in its first week, peaking at No. 18 on the Billboard 200.
Nicki Minaj has set a high bar, with her album ‘Pink Friday 2’ debuting at No. 1, racking up nearly 230,000 first-week units. Latto and Ice Spice’s ongoing feud adds spice to the situation. On ‘Sugar Honey Iced Tea,’ Latto seems to take jabs at her rival, rapping ‘Bye sis, funny thing about it, you can’t look me in my eye, sis,’ referencing Ice Spice’s first name, Isis.
Ice Spice had previously targeted Latto in her track ‘Think U the Shit (Fart).’ The lyric ‘I got my foot on they necks, I can’t let up / She all on the floor, told her get up,’ was a clear nod to Latto’s collab with Cardi B, ‘Put It On Da Floor.’ Latto retaliated on ‘Sunday Service,’ spitting, ‘Think I’m the shit, bitch, I know it, ho / Jesus walked on water, I got ice boilin’ though.’
Latto and Nicki Minaj’s beef dates back to a messy social media spat in late 2022, filled with personal insults and leaked private messages.
The album wars between these rappers are far from over, and it looks like the fan feuds will continue to fuel the fire.
