Bun B nearly joined the Big Tymers, says Mannie Fresh, but industry politics got in the way. Here’s the scoop:

  • Bun B was almost in Big Tymers alongside Mannie Fresh and Birdman.
  • Industry politics and rivalries prevented this iconic team-up.
  • Bun B still worked on several Big Tymers and Cash Money projects.
  • UGK turned down a “Big Pimpin’” sequel with JAY-Z for artistic reasons.

Bun B, a Texas rap legend, was close to joining another Southern rap giant, the Big Tymers, revealed Mannie Fresh in a recent interview with Apt. 5H.

According to Mannie Fresh, Bun B was supposed to be part of the group with him and Birdman. However, politics between Cash Money and No Limit Records threw a wrench into those plans.

Mannie Fresh explained, ‘Bun actually was supposed to be in the Big Tymers. A lot of people don’t know that.’ The conflict arose because UGK’s Pimp C was working with No Limit, while Bun B collaborated with Cash Money.

Despite this, Bun B still made appearances on Big Tymers’ albums like ‘How You Luv That’ and ‘Big Money Heavyweight,’ and other Cash Money projects. Mannie Fresh praised Bun’s contributions, saying his verses were mind-blowing.

Bun B himself added a fascinating chapter to Hip Hop lore by revealing that UGK once turned down doing a sequel to ‘Big Pimpin” with JAY-Z. This was due to both creative and financial reasons.

Appearing on Math Hoffa’s My Expert Opinion show, Bun explained that their label, Jive Records, wanted a ‘Big Pimpin’ 2,’ but UGK rejected it. Bun said they didn’t want to dilute their legacy just for a big collaboration.

Bun shared, ‘UGK was Pimp’s baby and he would put his heart and soul into it.’ They were $2.5 million in debt, and another big-budget project wasn’t appealing.

Bun B asked his label, ‘If I don’t do a song with JAY-Z and Timbaland, do I still get a Hype Williams video?’ The label was bewildered but didn’t say no. However, UGK wasn’t interested in doing another big-budget track.

While Bun B never officially joined Big Tymers, his influence on Southern rap remains undeniable.
