Nicki Minaj seems to have stirred up some drama by apparently ignoring a comment from Ice Spice on Instagram.
Nicki posted a throwback photo of herself from almost 20 years ago with a nostalgic caption about crimping her own hair and using padded bras. Fans and fellow artists flooded the comments with love, including Ice Spice, who left a heart-eyes emoji.
However, observant fans noticed that while Nicki had liked comments from other celebrities, such as Sexyy Red, Akbar V, and Kim Petras, she did not like Ice Spice’s comment. Adding more fuel to the fire, Ice Spice’s comment has since disappeared, leading to speculation about whether it was deleted by her or removed by Nicki.
Social media erupted with reactions. One user commented, ‘She being ignored deliberately ice’s comment has the most likes…oh this is messy.’ Another added, ‘She is the only one without a like 😭 Nicki is sick.’
Some fans believe Nicki might be envious of Ice Spice. One particularly vocal fan noted, ‘She’s taking Nicki’s spot. She already won. Nicki is 40+… her run has to end just like Beyoncé’s and all the greats.’
Ice Spice recently revealed she doesn’t have a close relationship with Nicki, describing their connection as ‘mutuals.’ While they’ve worked on hit records together, earlier this year, text messages leaked where Ice expressed frustration over the business side of their collab on ‘Barbie World.’ In those texts, Ice seemed to criticize Nicki, calling her ‘ungrateful and delusional’ and accusing her of being jealous because Ice owns her master recordings, unlike Nicki.
Despite her frustrations, Ice has always spoken highly of Nicki’s contributions to the culture. She remarked, ‘Regardless of how I felt in that moment, [Nicki] is still somebody I respect as an artist, and I’m always going to admire everything she’s done for me and the culture.’
Whether this is just a misunderstanding or intentional shade, the drama between these two rap queens has the internet buzzing. It remains to be seen how this will impact their relationship moving forward.
