Westside Gunn has confirmed the arrival of his next studio album, ‘Flygod Is An Awesome God III (Trilogy).’
After facing the loss of a loved one in April, the Buffalo rapper took a brief hiatus, only to return in June with hints of an upcoming project. On July 22, Gunn took to social media platform X to share more about his highly anticipated album. The original ‘Flygod Is An Awesome God’ dropped in 2019, followed by a sequel in 2020.
“FLYGOD IS AN AWESOME GOD III (TRILOGY),” he wrote. “This ALBUM IS KRAAAAAZY!!!! I had to Bring the Mask back out bc this shit toooo RAW & DUSTY, I know the game Miss me even though my kids been doing a great job with entertaining… YOUR FATHERS BACK HOME.” While a precise release date wasn’t disclosed, the lead single, “Chocolate Face,” is already gaining traction as the theme for TNA Wrestling’s Slammiversary event, and Gunn hinted the album will be out in the Fall.
Last year, Westside Gunn declared his departure from traditional studio albums, saying his 2023 project, ‘And Then You Pray For Me,’ would be his last in that format. “[This is] going to be the last album where I take the time to say ‘this is an album,’” he told Rolling Stone.
Gunn shared that he might still release short projects like EPs, but he wants to have more fun and ease the pressure. He noted the importance of focusing on his new artists, who need his attention for their development.
With contributions from artists like RZA, Rick Ross, Jeezy, and many others, ‘And Then You Pray For Me’ showcased Gunn’s versatility. However, he is now venturing into new sounds and experimenting while still staying true to himself.
The excitement around ‘Flygod Is An Awesome God III (Trilogy)’ is palpable, and fans eagerly await its Fall release. With Gunn bringing his unique style and raw energy once again, it’s sure to be a hit.
