Big Sean has officially announced his upcoming sixth album ‘Better Me Than You.’ The Detroit rapper disclosed the news just a day after an unfinished version of the album leaked online. He took to social media on July 18 to share that the album will hit the shelves on August 9.
To give fans a taste of what’s coming, Big Sean also shared a psychedelic trailer soundtracked by an unreleased song. This song features a funky bassline, spacey synths, and pounding percussion. He explained the album’s inspiration, saying, “The PRESSURE of life (being a new Dad, being an artist that’s growing, being a human in development, etc.) and embracing it all led me to a lot of CLARITY on what I needed to FOCUS on to find a piece of HAPPINESS.”
Along with the album announcement, Big Sean released a new single called ‘Yes,’ which has already created a buzz. In this song, he raps, “I would rather give y’all my soul, I don’t have to sell it / Might take a piss off your rap Mount Rushmore after I scale it / Blue strips when I do hit the strip, know we fuckin’ it up like Elvis,” before namedropping JAY-Z.
The album rollout has been nothing short of dramatic. An unfinished version of ‘Better Me Than You‘ was leaked online earlier this week. The leaker claimed they did it because Big Sean took shots at Kanye West in a recent freestyle. The leaked files included collaborations with Nas, Brent Faiyaz, Charlie Wilson, The-Dream, and Jhené Aiko.
Despite the leak, Big Sean didn’t seem too stressed about it. He addressed the situation on social media, posting, “Might as well start droppin, before they leak it all, got damn. BIG SEAN x THE ALCHEMIST soon” while sharing a snippet of an upcoming collaboration. In his latest freestyle, Sean took several subliminal jabs at his former boss Kanye West, referencing Kanye’s comments about him and other industry antics.
Big Sean’s new album ‘Better Me Than You’ is set to make waves when it officially drops on August 9.
