It was a shocking turn of events on July 15 when up-and-coming Oakland rapper Tan DaGod, real name Alliauna Green, was shot outside a beauty supply store. She had just attended the grand opening of Glamor Beauty Supply when a gunman confronted her. After a brief altercation, he opened fire, and shortly after, Tan was pronounced dead at the hospital. She was just 27 years old.
The motive behind Tan DaGod’s tragic killing remains unclear. However, a video surfaced after her death that has fans buzzing. In an interview with Off The Porch, Tan brazenly claimed to have killed her ex-boyfriend, whom she described as abusive. She even had a custom headstone made, detailing the start and end dates of their relationship, alongside lyrics to her provocative song, “Ex Wood Pack.” “Oh well, they’re not gonna do sh*t about it,” she boldly declared in the video.
Despite her claims, Tan’s family maintains that “Ex Wood Pack” was purely a diss track meant for clout. They insist that there was no truth behind her lyrics. Ernest Holloway, a friend of Tan’s, told a local news affiliate that she was a caring individual dedicated to her community. He dismissed the online speculation, calling them unfounded rumors.
Tan was well-regarded in Oakland, particularly for her support of Black-owned businesses. The owners of Glamor Beauty Supply invited her to celebrate their opening because of her reputation as a community supporter. Prominent Oakland rapper Mistah F.A.B. expressed his sorrow on Instagram, remembering Tan as a “hustling go-getter with a world of ambition, drive, and courage and a heart big as Texas!!!” Meanwhile, residents from the neighborhood placed flowers outside the beauty supply store to honor her memory.
Tan DaGod’s untimely death has left a community mourning and searching for answers. While the police continue their investigation, the enigmatic rapper’s recent troubling statements have only deepened the mystery. Her legacy, however, as a passionate and driven artist, lives on in the memories of those who knew and admired her.
