Lloyd dropped in to surprise both Ashanti and her audience during the “Foolish” singer’s final show before she takes her maternity leave. It all went down at the Tacos & Tequilas event in Kansas City on Saturday, June 1.
Ashanti was in the middle of her set when her Lloyd collaboration, “Southside,” began playing — a song that wasn’t part of her pre-planned set list. The moment got even more exciting when Lloyd himself ran out on stage, much to the delight of both Ashanti and the audience.
Lloyd also made headlines last month with a special Instagram message for Ashanti and Nelly’s unborn child. On May 20, he posted a photo of himself on stage with Ashanti, singing to her belly. He wrote: “Dear Baby Haynes, you are surrounded by love, by good energy, and by ppl who have prayed for your piece [sic] of mind way before you were born. One day I will tell you of the times I got to sing to you while still in your mothers belly, of how your mommy changed my life, and of how your dad was there for me when I needed a little love and guidance. Can’t wait to meet you and make you laugh. Inshallah, Your Uncle Ladi [infinity emoji, heart emoji, baby emoji].”
Ashanti was visibly moved by Lloyd’s heartfelt message and commented: “Omggggg I’m cryinggggg and u know I don’t cry… Thanku Ladi love u soooooooooo much!!!!! Such beautiful and meaningful words… I truly appreciate you so much. I’m literally crying.”
Ashanti announced her pregnancy in April and later confirmed her engagement to Nelly in an interview with Essence. She expressed her excitement about this new chapter in her life, calling it a “blessing full of love, hope, and anticipation.” The couple, who dated for a decade before splitting in 2013, rekindled their romance in 2023.
