Megan Thee Stallion just dropped some big news: her new album, Megan, is set to release on June 28!
The Houston rapper took to social media on Sunday (June 2) to make the announcement, writing: “SURPRISE HOTTIESSSS!!!! My New Album ‘MEGAN’ will be coming out JUNE 28 PRE-SAVE NOW!” She also shared the album cover art, which features a striking image of a naked Megan inside a cocoon, hanging upside down with a giant ‘M’ embossed over the artwork.
Fans at her Hot Girl Summer Tour stop in Atlanta got the first look at the album announcement. Megan unveiled a QR code that allowed the sold-out crowd to pre-save the project, sparking plenty of excitement.
This will be Megan’s first album since the drama with Tory Lanez, who was sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting her in the feet in July 2020. Despite Lanez’s claims of innocence, the court handed down a heavy sentence last summer.
The upcoming album will be released through her own Hot Girl imprint in partnership with Warner Music Group, a deal that came into effect in December. This new arrangement allows her to own her master recordings and have full creative control, while benefiting from WMG’s distribution and marketing expertise.
Megan recently split from 1501 Certified Ent. after a prolonged legal dispute over money and contract terms. She celebrated her newfound independence, saying: ‘I have no label right now. We’re doing everything funded straight out of Megan Thee Stallion’s pocket. The next shit y’all about to see about to be all straight from Megan Thee Stallion brain’s [and] wallet.’
She’s already dropped a few singles from the album, all with a snake theme: ‘Cobra,’ ‘Hiss,’ and ‘BOA.’ In a recent interview with L’Officiel, Megan explained her fascination with snakes and how they symbolize rebirth and spirituality. ‘We started with the snake because, first of all, I love snakes, but I feel like snakes are so misunderstood, especially in Western culture. Snakes represent rebirth, spirituality,’ she said. ‘I’m not someone who says, ‘Oh my God, sunshine and happiness.’ I like darker things. I like things that are a little scary. I like unique things. I chose the snake because… it’s a kind of anti-hero.’
She summed up the album’s theme by adding, ‘Renewal, rebirth — that’s the whole concept of the album.’
Mark your calendars for June 28, because Megan Thee Stallion is about to make waves with her new album, Megan.
